Free Printable Christmas Hallelujah Sheet Music – Looking for free printable Christmas Hallelujah sheet music? This resource page helps USA readers find legitimate options for the popular Christmas version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (with lyrics by Cloverton) and the classic Handel “Hallelujah Chorus” from Messiah, often performed at Christmas.
The Christmas Hallelujah adapts the well-known melody with new lyrics focused on the Nativity story (“I’ve heard about this baby boy / Who’s come to Earth to bring us joy…”). It works well for piano, voice, guitar, or small groups at home, church, or holiday gatherings. Note that Leonard Cohen’s original composition remains under copyright, so fully free legal sheet music of exact transcriptions is limited. Always use resources for personal or educational use and respect licensing for public performances.
What Is Christmas Hallelujah Sheet Music?
Christmas Hallelujah typically refers to the Cloverton arrangement that keeps Cohen’s melody and chord progression while swapping in Christmas-themed lyrics about the birth of Jesus, the shepherds, and the wise men. It is usually written in C major or a similar accessible key, often in 6/8 time, making it approachable for intermediate players and singers.
Many people also search for Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus,” a public-domain Baroque masterpiece frequently featured in Christmas concerts and church services across the United States.

Tips for Printing and Using the Sheet Music
- Print on standard letter-size paper (8.5 x 11 inches) at 100% scale for best readability. Large-print versions help younger students or group sing-alongs.
- Pair the melody with simple guitar chords (C, Am, F, G are common) if you only have a lead sheet.
- For church or school use in the USA, check CCLI licensing if performing copyrighted material publicly.
- Practice slowly with a metronome; the 6/8 feel of many Christmas Hallelujah arrangements benefits from a gentle swing.
- Combine free lyrics with a public-domain chord chart or create your own simple accompaniment.
