Free Printable Nicene Creed PDF Resources – The Nicene Creed is one of the most important statements of Christian belief. Adopted at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD and expanded at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD, it summarizes core doctrines about God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church, baptism, and the resurrection.
Many Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Protestant churches in the United States recite a version of it regularly. Families, catechists, homeschoolers, and Sunday school teachers often look for a free printable Nicene Creed to help with memorization, classroom use, or personal devotion.
This page explains the creed briefly and points you to legitimate free printable options that require no purchase.
What Is the Nicene Creed?
The Nicene Creed (technically the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed) affirms belief in one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It stresses that Jesus is fully God (“consubstantial with the Father” or “of one Being with the Father”), became man, suffered, died, rose again, and will return. It also professes one baptism and the hope of the resurrection.
Slight wording differences exist between traditions. The current Roman Catholic English text used at Mass in the United States begins with “I believe.” Many Protestant and ecumenical versions use “We believe.” Orthodox versions typically omit the later Western “Filioque” clause (“and the Son”) regarding the procession of the Holy Spirit.
The official Catholic text used in the United States is available from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:
USCCB Nicene Creed.
