Free Printable Mezuzah Scroll Download Guide – A mezuzah scroll (klaf) is the heart of the Jewish doorpost tradition. It contains handwritten verses from Deuteronomy (the Shema and related passages) on kosher parchment. A free printable mezuzah scroll is a paper version of that text. People search for “free printable mezuzah scroll printable” when they need a temporary placeholder, an educational tool, or a craft project for kids—not a halachically valid (kosher) scroll.
Printed paper versions are never kosher. A valid mezuzah must be written by a trained sofer (scribe) on special parchment with proper ink and intention. Free printables are useful for learning, classroom activities, temporary use while waiting for a real scroll, or decorative practice. Once you are ready for proper observance, replace any printable with a certified kosher scroll from a trusted Judaica source.
What Is Inside a Mezuzah Scroll?
The traditional text includes Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21. It begins with the well-known words “Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.” On the reverse side of a real scroll appears the divine name Shaddai. Free printable versions usually show the Hebrew text (sometimes with English translation or simplified Shema for children) so families can see and discuss the words.
These printables help USA households—whether newly observant, interfaith, or teaching children—understand the mitzvah without the immediate cost of a hand-written klaf.

How to Print and Use a Free Mezuzah Scroll Printable?
- Download the PDF or template.
- Print on regular or parchment-look paper at high resolution so Hebrew letters remain clear.
- Trim to fit a standard mezuzah case (common sizes are roughly 6–12 cm / 2.5–5 inches tall).
- Roll from left to right so the first word of the Shema appears when unrolled.
- Place inside a case and affix to the right doorpost (upper third, angled or straight according to custom) only if you understand this is temporary or educational.
- Treat the printed text with respect—many communities bury or place worn sacred texts in a geniza.
For children’s projects, the Bible Belt Balabusta templates encourage coloring, sticker matching, or simple writing of the word “Shema.” These make excellent Jewish crafts for Hebrew school or home.
Practical Tips for USA Families
- Use a free printable while ordering a kosher scroll or while a sofer inspects existing ones.
- Keep the printable for teaching or for a child’s lower-mounted case that kids can touch.
- Never claim a paper version fulfills the biblical commandment.
- Purchase kosher scrolls from reputable vendors that provide certification; local Chabad centers or established Judaica stores are good starting points for guidance.
